These are misfits and runts, culled from a couple of my old worktapes, and compiled in 2017 at the request of Unread Records for, "some unreleased mark". Be warned that this is not up to my usual (admittedly lax) standards. It is a collection of ideas that I never got around to finishing. What sets this apart from my other records is that everything on this tape was actually meant to be heard by just myself, or possibly, (maybe), my bandmates at the time. The method was to get the basic ideas down fast to remember, try out silly things over top, and maybe do a good version later. Sometimes later never came...At this distance, I can find it charming, but these are MY misfits and runts. I can be too sentimental, sometimes about just getting through a drum track. Some are fragments, or were not good ideas to begin with; some were songs that I could not come up with a satisfactory lyric; some were too hard for me to play (but not to think up!); some did not fit the project; some were never going to fit in anywhere; and others were not in any way intentional. One song here was interrupted by the phone ringing, and I never went back to it. Another song, inspired by the overwhelming odds that a molecule of water in your body was once a part of Julius Caesar's body, was going to trace that molecule up through the intervening millennia, in song; then I sobered up. That said, there are at least a few good songs hidden amongst all the context. "Yard", for one. "Gideon" is another. "The Anthem of the Soviet Republic of the Self" is perhaps not so good, but I still like it anyway: I imagine trumpets. You are here. You decide. Take only what you like. There is also a video posted on YouTube of "Well, You Asked", from this cassette. But, really, do not get your hopes up.
